Happy 20th Birthday to…. First Person Shooters?

Wow.. Only twenty years ago today was the release of one of the biggest games in PC history, “Doom“.

What’s that says some of our younger gamers? Only one of the FIRST games to be released in the First Person Shooter (FPS) Genre, birthing other games like Call of Duty, Halo, GoldenEye, Rainbow 6, Quake, BioShock… The list goes on!

We Gamers Salute You!

EDIT: My mistake! The original article stated 10 years ago as the release date of Doom… As some people pointed out it was actually 20!

I just dated myself.. LOL.. I was 22 when it was released.. we played the game then modded everything we could about it. Then we made new maps.. Was the first of it’s kind.. as far as we were concerned. I think I may have lost a year or 2 of my life to Doom.. but I think it was worth it. 🙂

Doom was officially released in 1993.. Making it 19. Of course I think I just dated myself by pointing this out but then correct information is important right?
